On Saturday 4th November we taught the Intermediate class at The Light and then during the Milonga we played sets of 78’s, original tango recordings.

This was very special for us to share with people. Not only do we love Tango music but all of these 78’s came from some very special people.  My first Tango 78’s were given to me by a friend who searched through old shops in Buenos Aires and carried a huge weight of them home, trying to keep them safe in his hand luggage. A precious gift indeed! Thank you Michele x

The rest of our 78’s were also gifted to us by a family member of Luis in Buenos Aires who lived around the corner from Alberto Moran! So we thank you as well Roque Cosimo and Elsa Beatriz Predieri for your generosity and all the pleasure we have already had from listening to these recordings. xxx

We were delighted to join Bury Tango on Sunday 15th October, where we taught two workshops in the afternoon and performed during the tea dance.

We would like to say a big thank you to Mick and Esme at Bury Tango for inviting us. We were surrounded by a fantastic group of people who we really enjoyed sharing our tango with. A beautiful afternoon ❤️

I never remember to take photos, but I did snap these two from one of the workshops

On 8th October we joined Tango Cotswold for the first time. We had a beautiful afternoon and evening getting to know everyone. The Milonga was full of lovely dancers and a warm environment, with wonderful music from David Thomas, we enjoyed sharing our dance with you through our performance. A special thanks to Ann, Alan and Debbie for your invitation, all your hard work, attention to detail and hospitality.  @Tango Cotswold

The last two months have been so busy that we have not had time to write for a while!  But we have had a marvellous Summer so far and wanted to share a few of the highlights here.

June – We were invited to be a part of Taste of London this year, performing every day alongside food and wine companies from Argentina and Latin America.  The weather was scorching but the crowd were amazing. Videos to follow…

1 July – Art Night

Tango y Nada Mas were invited to take part in Art Night on 1 July 2017. Artist Melanie Manchot curated a project combining the many dance forms to be found in East London and a group of us representing Tango y Nada Mas, danced through the streets from the Water Poet to Exchange square where Luis and I taught a Tango lesson on what seemed to be an inflatable mattress!!  Quite an experience and what a crowd!!!!

The next day we did a taster lesson and performance for local residents in Peckham as part of the Big Lunch

Also in July, we were invited to perform as part of Comida Fest, taking place in Greenwich, a wonderful setting in front of the Cutty Sark. Videos to follow 🙂

Firstly, we thought you might like to know that Air conditioning has arrived at The Water Poet! Phew!

We have lots planned for the next few months and have made some changes to our class structure and timings, as well as having planned a few special events, details below:

Still to take your first steps?

If you have been thinking about trying Argentine Tango for a while, but not quite made it, now is the perfect time to join a class at The Water Poet on Monday evenings.

5 weekly Beginners Courses

We started a new Beginners Course last week and its not too late to join. These run from 6:30-7:30pm every Monday. We cover the basics to get you started and no previous experience is necessary. It is a warm and friendly environment and we repeat the course every 5 weeks. We are running a promotion at the moment to have the first class out of the 5 FREE. Additionally, if you sign up for the 5 weeks you receive a 20% discount on the normal prices for drop in classes.

If you already have some experience, then why not try our Improvers class at 7:30-8:30pm where we still concentrate on the fundamentals of the embrace, connection and music but also introduce more complex figures to help you start dancing with confidence. The Improvers is suitable for everyone who has already has some experience. We also offer the 20% discount to all those who sign up for 5 weeks at a time in order to build a group of committed dancers and improve the experience for all.

From 8:30-9:30 we run our Intermediate class for those who have been dancing for a lot longer.  Here we concentrate on much more complex figures to keep your dance fresh and interesting. Again the 20% discount is available to all who sign up for blocks of 5 classes.

Normal drop in price for classes is £12.

TASTER DAY – Saturday 20th May

On Saturday 20th May we will be running a special intensive ‘Taster session’ to introduce all the fundamentals of this beautiful dance in an afternoon between 2-5pm at The Water Poet. The price for this is £30 and booking in advance is essential so we ensure equal numbers of leaders and followers.
